2007 Book
'Em Event, to be held
on Saturday,
October 20, 2006 at the
Waynesboro
High School in
Waynesboro, Virginia.
This ground-breaking Book Fair
highlighting the connection between illiteracy and high crime
rates features dozens of authors
who will be signing their books and giving talks on writing,
the publishing industry, and other topics of interest throughout
the day.

| Books
of all types and genres are included, such as historical, non-fiction,
mystery, romance, suspense/thrillers, fantasy, horror, true crime,
and children's books, ranging from preschool books through the
teen years. |
| Admittance
to the annual book event is free. The proceeds from the sale
of the books goes to organizations dedicated to increasing literacy
rates, decreasing crime rates, helping police solve crimes, and
raising public awareness of the link between high illiteracy
rates and high crime rates. The 2004, 2005 and 2006 events benefited
the following charities: Central Shenandoah Crime Stoppers, Friends
of the Library from Waynesboro, Staunton, and Augusta County,
and the Shenandoah Valley Reading Council. |
Waynesboro Public
High School is located just five minutes from three different
interchanges off of I-64, and is centrally located in Virginia,
convenient to Northern Virginia, Tidewater, western mountains,
Bristol to the south and Winchester to the north.

At the time the
event is scheduled, the fall foliage will be at its peak. Waynesboro
is located just five minutes from Skyline Drive and is nestled
in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

There are two entrances used
for the event. The main entrance, in the back of the building,
is used for folks arriving in private vehicles.
|
The bus entrance is located at
the front of the building. Buses (i.e., senior citizens groups
and student field trips) are also encouraged. Ample bus parking
is provided.

The book fair is held in the
school's gymnasium. There are six rows of authors with 6-8 foot
tables and ample space for attendees to visit with authors, peruse
the books, and get them autographed.
|
Talks are conducted throughout
the day which include the background stories of authors and the
writing of their books, how to get published, and other topics
of interest.
|
There are a number of activities
for children facilitated by children's authors, such as this
one pictured above with author Alison Hart,
author of more than 18 children's books, with the Case of the Missing Necklace.

Police will be on hand to fingerprint
children and take their photographs...
|
|
and provide free gunlocks and
useful information.
|
The cafeteria is transformed into a food court, and several
food vendors will be on hand.
|
Located at the entrance to the
food court are vending machines also. There are also vending
machines located throughout the hallways.
|
This is the Cashier window located
near the main entrance and just across from the food court and
gift wrapping services. Purchases are paid for at this window.
